Entries may have been slim but the number of youngsters helping to prepare cattle in the Devon lines, and getting involved in classes must be a good sign for the future. Judge, Mrs Angela Poad, found her Female and Breed Champion in Stonegrove Snowdrop 23rd. This two year old heifer, sired by Stonegrove Nimrod, had stood Female Champion as a yearling at last year’s Show. She went one better this year taking the Breed Championship over her younger half sister, Stonegrove Snowdrop 26th. Both heifers are out of Stonegrove Snowdrop 10th. The pairs class went to Gavin Hunter’s Tilbrook herd with cow, Tilbrook Gracious 7th EX90, and Tilbrook Hope 26th. Overall, the day was Stonegrove’s and an encouraging start to young William Dorrell’s cattle showing career. Stonegrove Snowdrop 23rd narrowly missed out in the Interbreed Beef Championship. She was pulled up into the final three by Judge, Mr Edward Quick, but just missed being tapped out for Champion or Reserve. Youngsters were undoubtedly the theme of the Devons’ show, with a small army of junior volunteers helping to prepare cattle in the lines. Along with William, Jack Southward and Katie Baines also made very good account of themselves in the young handler classes View a full set of results here.
