Judge, Richard Dorrell, had some quality Devon cattle in front of him. In a repetition of last year, it was the females who took the day with Lisa Roper’s Bollowal Noah sired heifer Forde Abbey Kate 13th taking Female and Breed Championship. Philip and Caroline Gay’s 2015 born Bagnell Mermaid by Thorndale Assirati followed Kate through as Reserve Female and then Reserve Breed Champion. First time Dorset Show Exhibitors Graham and Anita Summerhayes took the Male Championship with their homebred Rocknell Quarrylad with Eric and Michelle Heard’s Cheristow Reggie his Reserve. The Junior Championship went to Forde Abbey Kate 13th. A hotly contested Pairs class went to Bagnell Mermaid and Norma.
Throughout the day the younger stockmen were much in evidence – with Hannah White (Duchy College) assisting Eric and Michelle Heard and Charlotte Warne, Jacob and Luke Parsons busy in the Bagnell lines. In fact, on the Sunday the Bagnell show team consisted entirely of the youngsters and the way they turned the cattle out and showed them was a real credit to them, and to Lisa and Mark. Somewhere along the line Luke also found time to come second in his age group in the Young Handlers Competition.
In Sunday’s Interbreed Native section, Devons were to the fore yet again winning 2 classes. Bagnell Mermaid and Norma again won their class for Philip and Caroline with Cheristow Reggie and Lovejoy winning the Progeny Pair for Eric and Michelle.
