The start of the 2016 show season got off to an auspicious start at Devon County Show.  The breed was very well represented with over 80 Devons. Judge, Mr Mike Yeandle, had plenty before him, particularly in the heifer classes where he found his Female and Breed Champion in two year old heifer, Stonegrove Snowdrop 18th bred and exhibited by Stonegrove Livestock.  Mike & Dannielle Cowell’s Eastyard Camelia 13th came out on top of a very competitive yearling heifer class, with Eastyard also in second place with Eastyard Milly 2nd.

The Senior bull class was won by Knowstone Major, bred and exhibited by John, Rosemary and Richard Stanbury.  He took Male Champion with Reserve going to Heywood & Hurd’s Whitefield O’Reilly winner of the two year old bull class.  The Female Champion got the Judge’s tap for Breed Champion who together with Male Champion, proved worthy representatives of the breed, taking Reserve Champion Beef Pair in Friday’s Beef Interbreed Championships, judged by Mr C Maclean from Hampshire.  Stonegrove Snowdrop 18th went on to take Reserve Champion Native Beef Animal.  There were other notable performances in the Interbreed classes with third places from both Colleton (group of 3) and Eastyard (Junior Bull).  Richard Stanbury was rewarded for entering his devon heifer Knowstone Beejay in the Commercial Beef classes, taking second place in the Heifer sired by a Native Bull class.   Saturday’s Interbreed Pairs class, judged by Mr David Barker, saw a win for Mike & Dannielle Cowell, with Simon & Grania Phillips in second.  It was great to see Duchy College students out in force in the Junior Beef Handler classes thanks to the support of several Devon exhibitors who made animals available to the students.  See a full set of Show Results here.
